Max Morton: Boston’s Newest Folk Indie Artist

I can’t seem to come across the right words to eloquently construct this feature on Max Morton, but I will try. With a rich Je Ne Sais quoi of his there is much to talk about. This talented folk guitarist and singer-songwriter takes inspiration from John Mayer, Eryka Badu and Adrianne Lenker of Big Thief. You can hear it in every bit of his sound that there is something quite special about his music – you can also feel it too.
Currently a student at Northeastern University in Boston, the first time he performed was at an open mic and forgot the lyrics to the song he was playing. This bumpy start was the spark that motivated him to start writing on his own. Since then, his journey has been all uphill from there. Max currently has one song out on Bandcamp now called I’ll Try. This was his way to finally just put something out to the public. Max wrote, recorded, and released the song all in one night. Most recently, he performed three unreleased songs at an acoustic session with Red Rash Records on YouTube.
A cloud of grace and elegance. A sound that fits in the skies of serenity. The utmost appreciation for all things music goes to Max Morton. He displays a voice that should be heard by all. His music is simply a reminder as to why I share these talented artists to you because it would be selfish of me not to.
Max has amassed thousands of hours of practicing even though he started learning the guitar during quarantine. That is one of the many things of why I’m blown away by what the man is already capable of. With his first time ever having a creative outlet, Morton was able to capitalize everything he has ever felt into his music. That is powerful.
In comparison to lyrics coexistent of Bob Dylan, there is an unmatched potential to be unlocked. The voyage may have just begun for Max Morton, but you should definitely take note. If you’re in the Boston area, make sure to check him out and see him perform live. Rumor has it that he could be dropping his debut single on all streaming platforms in March so definitely drop him a follow to keep yourself updated on all things Max Morton.
