Rose Avenue — Embarks On A New Chapter
From the Foothills of La Cañada
Rose Avenue makes way for a new chapter in their music, and you need to hear about it too.
This indie-alt rock band based out of Los Angeles, California began their emergence through the help of the ever so amazing PTA moms in their community. The band members: Langdon Dearbord (guitar, vocals), Will Chant (guitar, vocals), Iman Behshid (bass, snake handler) Aram Behshid (drums) found themselves forming from the seats of their AP Music Theory class in high school and it’s been history ever since. Regarding their band name, they have no clue where it came from, but it was the name “that everyone hated the least.”
As mentioned, with the help of the tight nit community of La Cañada and the amazing PTA Moms, Rose Avenue was able to fundraise their first album during peak COVID. Through a series of performing locally safe shows to send to families in quarantine helped grow their fanbase as well as finance their first album. Playing songs requested by families ranging from Jack Johnson to Queen helped them develop a greater range for their music. Although they may be developing a new sound, This Game We Play is still held close to their roots.
Raw and full of passion, their most recent tunes instill a newly eccentric sound that helps establish a stronger understanding of what the band is capable of. Their music gives me a crisp reminiscent feeling daydreaming over the summer as a child.
A New Chapter
The next phase of their music was inspired at a lake house over the summer. Within minutes of being there, Rose Ave already had an idea for a song. It just so happened to be the tune Head in the Clouds which is described as a “more focused song that is true to the music that they want to make” and I personally think they are on the right track. The intro of the song begins with a voice over that was only supposed to be used as an explanation of how to play the drums at the beginning. Instead, they decided to use the actual voice over and it worked perfectly. Also, if the producers of the show Outer Banks are reading this, you should put this song in the next season.
Drawing inspiration from Hippocampus and The Strokes, Rose Avenue most recently released the song Age Old Drink. A song that gracefully exemplifies the idea of questioning what’s going on in a relationship by alluding to pieces of information that don’t really make rational sense such as the line “standstill traffic on the five at half past three.” I am not from California, but I can assure you that the I-5 highway shouldn’t necessarily have standstill traffic around 3; unless it’s a Friday. With Aram killing it on the drums per usual, this song serves as another wholesome classic for Rose Avenue.
When I interviewed the band earlier this year, I had asked them what they are manifesting for 2022. They plan on releasing a new EP that is in the works as well as get to moshin at a concert near you. I look forward to seeing their progress on this new chapter and hope to see them perform soon.
