The Travelin Man: Shawn Chasten
From the Gatorade blue waters of Banff Canada to the sandy beaches of Costa Rica, Shawn Chasten has travelled near and far to perform and entertain all by showcasing his talents as an emerging artist. Last summer, Chasten went on a road trip across the country and performed at any bar and street the world would let him.
Originally from New Jersey, Shawn began his independent songwriting endeavors mid-way through college and throughout the duration of the Quarantimes. Despite his unfortunate hatred for the Dallas Cowboys, we agreed on several different things. Prior to his singer-songwriter career, there was a time where Shawn performed in rock bands during high school and had gigs around Philly and South Jersey.
Much like several other up coming artists and bands, Chasten took the advantage of the opportunity of online classes and travelled while doing school. Amidst travelling, he landed himself in a beautiful Colorado cabin and began working on his first singles. Soon after the songs were released, Shawn got an abundance of great feedback and realized this is the road that he wants to travel.
A truck, a guitar and a pocket full of dreams, this Cal Poly grad has been chasing the feeling of having his music heard by the world . Shawn Chasten has a smooth beach vibe to his music with songs such as Mainland and Brighter Over There. Brighter Over There is mentioned to be about the time of when he moved back into his college house after being in Costa Rica for six months.
With his experience playing from coast to coast, you can tell how the environment resonates with his music. In his time spent in Costa Rica, Shawn managed to immerse himself there by playing every night with the local bands at places such as La Colina. Chasten was able to connect with a brilliant videographer to shoot and curate the vision for his Mainland music video. This video shares the idea of how going back to ones old roots can shift the concept of reality and throw things off.
Sidenote: Not only is this man amazingly talented but he holds a world record for the longest cornhole game.
Currently, Shawn Chasten resides amongst the tides of Big Sur and spends his time working on his craft as well as gigging all around. He also goes on Instagram live a lot so be sure to follow him and stay up to date on what’s next.
