Colin Bracewell: From Minnesota To Austria

Ladies, Gentlemen, and music lovers across the globe let me introduce you to the artist Colin Bracewell. This opera student and musician from the University of Minnesota is on the rise showcasing his music at venues all over the world.

Growing up, Colin immersed himself in the art of making music for his friends and family while playing in several different bands. His acoustically serene sound is reminiscent of Ben Rector and Jeff Buckley. Starting out, Bracewell began his endeavors in music when he was forced to play the violin at age 5 and was also involved in musical theatre as a teen. Rumor has it that he is also quite the skilled tap dancer.

A hustler at heart. When Colin first began getting serious about his music, he ended up reaching out to over one hundred radio stations to pitch his song. Although only three radio stations got back to him, this allowed for him to get his music played on the radio for the first time. Bracewell remembers the exact date and time of when his song You’re Fine was played on Minnesota Public Station the Current.

Last September, Colin released his EP Valley, a blissful project that enlightens the ears of anyone that listens to it. Bracewell seems to cherish life for all that comes his way and you can feel it in his music. Some of the songs that were curated from the project came to life when his producer encouraged him to write five more songs in the next couple of weeks. In doing so, Colin ended up with adding The Cage and In the Valley to his EP.

When I had the opportunity to interview with Colin while he was studying abroad in Vienna, Austria, one of the music capitols of the world. Not only was he immersed in such a beautiful country but he was in the pinnacle location for classical music. This allowed for Colin to seek opportunity and find a place to perform and showcase his talents to a whole new environment. Soon enough, one night he found himself playing on the rooftop of Jo & Jill’s hotel (basically a seven story ikea with a rooftop bar) for hundreds of people.

Most recently, Colin has been in the lab gearing up to share some new music with the world. On April 29th, he plans to release an absolute banger called Slopes. If you’re in the Minneapolis area be sure to see him live as he has a show coming on April 15th at Blush.
